Material Selection
It is recommended to use 3-to-5-year-old Moso bamboo due to its high fiber density and strong corrosion resistance (data from the Chinese Academy of Forestry indicates a flexural strength of 70–90 MPa).
Tools required: Saw, electric drill, sandpaper, and waterproof adhesive (eco-friendly polyurethane adhesive is recommended).
Dimensions
Recommended dimensions for standard home planter boxes: 60–80 cm long, 30–40 cm wide, and 25–35 cm high. Adjust the depth according to the plant's root system (e.g., tomatoes require over 30 cm, while lettuce needs only 20 cm).
Drill drainage holes (0.5 cm in diameter) at the bottom, spaced 15–20 cm apart, to prevent water accumulation and root rot.
Construction Steps
① Split the bamboo into strips 5–8 cm wide and sand the edges smooth;
② Secure the four corners using stainless steel screws or bamboo pegs, and apply waterproof adhesive to the joints;
③ Line the bottom with a layer of bamboo charcoal or expanded clay pebbles (3–5 cm thick) to improve aeration.
